REFLEXOLOGY

MICHAEL TEELING
reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works on the feet or hands to restore the body’s natural balance and encourage healing. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively.

A reflexologist uses hands only to apply pressure to the feet. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points the reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination is improved, encouraging the body to heal itself.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM REFLEXOLOGY?

Since reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment. Reflexology is suitable for many conditions, both chronic and acute including:

Reflexology can benefit almost everyone; it is suitable for both children and adults, males and females of all age groups.

You do not have to have a health problem to benefit from reflexology.  A treatment can help to relieve stress and tension and help with relaxation, as well as maintaining good health mentally, physically and emotionally.

TREATMENT

Your initial appointment will include a detailed consultation to discuss details of your health and lifestyle. The reflexologist then begins to work on your feet, or hands if necessary, noting problem areas. There may be discomfort in some places, but it is fleeting, and is an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body. For the most part, the sensation is pleasant and soothing.  The reflexologist uses a firm touch, rather than a light one, so is still suitable for ticklish feet!

Usually a treatment session lasts between 40 minutes to 1 hour. A course of treatment varies in length depending on your body's needs. After you have completed a course of treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well being.

After the first or second treatment your body may respond in a very definite way: you may have a feeling of well-being and relaxation; or you may feel lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory. It is, however, vital information for the reflexologist, as it shows how your body is responding to treatment.   You may also be given advice and guidance on diet and nutrition and lifestyle changes for optimum health.

Each session lasts approximately one hour with the exception of Session One which will be slightly longer as it includes a consultation. (There is no additional charge for this first session.)
